When Venkatanatha visited his guru once to inquire about the whereabouts of himself and his family, the guru realised Venkatanatha was the ideal candidate to be his descendant. While returning home, he encountered Goddess Sawraswath (Goddess of Learning), who described his birth as Raghavendra in the Kaliyuga and Prhaladha in a prior birth. After having a change of heart, Venkathanatha decides to seek salvation as a “Sanyasi” (an avatar who commits to committing themselves entirely to the Almighty and renunciating family ties/surrendering themselves to the Lord whole and single). On Phalguni Sukla Dwitiya at Tanjore, in 1621, he then assumed control of the mutt.
